Five For Friday - June 12
Linking up for another Five for Friday!
1. This week for me was all about rest... My first week of summer. I am the first to admit that I am one to be giving 150% to my husband/students/colleagues every day and take little time to take care of myself. Eventually, that catches up to you. I ended this school year sick and had to hurry up to get well in time for a sinus surgery this week. I never had sinuses issues until teaching, so I think it's fair to say, a 4 year battle ending with a surgery should teach me my lesson. Rest and self-care is big for teachers!!! I'm grateful to have the surgery behind me. The recovery is no cake-walk, but I know I'll get through it and hopefully have a smoother future ahead!
I wasn't going to show a pic for this event in my week, but I guess we're all friends here. At this time, I made it to the recovery room and was about ready to go home!
2. My aunt was visiting last weekend. She loves art so we took her to a pottery painting place. We ended up being the only ones there and having the studio to ourselves. I decided to paint a "Happy Birthday" plate that could become a little tradition in our house. Anytime it's your birthday, you get to use the plate. Cheesy? Just a bit, but I'm kind of that way! We are still waiting for them to go through the Kiln and be ready for pick-up. I know it will look lots better after that! Here's what it looked like right when I finished it:
3. Be sure to check out my next post... My Bright Bunch and Adventures in the ATC are hosting a giveaway with me to celebrate our new blog redesigns! You have TWO chances to win in this giveaway.
4. I got this really cute poem from a student at the end of the year. I had never heard of it before, but I thought it was so sweet. Have you heard this poem?
5. Speaking of taking care of yourself, are you looking for a healthy recipe idea for this summer? My husband and I are both working from home and don't want to lose a lot of time in the kitchen at lunch. Yet, we are trying to eat as healthy and organically as we can! We're calling our lunch our superfood salad bowls. We are using kale/spinach, berries, veggies, nuts/seeds, quinoa, and beans. I make up a bunch of quinoa and season the beans so all we have to do throughout the week is combine our salad into a bowl. For dinner we are having meat and veggies (as often as we can). If you are looking to buy organic food and not totally break the bank, try Costco! I don't know what I would do without Costco - We get our best quality food there, and it's only for a few things that I need to run to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.
How was your week???
